At the end of the three-month study, those who took cumin lost 3 pounds more than those who didn’t receive the spice. The average weight loss of those in the cumin group was 13 pounds.
What’s more interesting was that the cumin group members posted a decrease in body fat percentage by nearly 15 percent. This was almost three times of the body fat loss by the control group. The researchers concluded that this was the addition of cumin.
Aside from decreasing body fat percentage, cumin is also effective in reducing cravings. This is due to its ability to balance blood sugar levels. Cumin can increase the way our bodies respond to insulin and glucose.
By managing blood sugar in check, cumin can decrease our body’s cravings for excess carbohydrates. It can also keep you feel full for a longer period.
I’ve also mentioned earlier that cumin is rich in phytosterols. This plant substance prevents cholesterol from being absorbed in the digestive tract which can also contribute to the weight reducing the effect of cumin.
