In today’s world, women are very likely to be both obligated and desirous of continuing their regular activities as much as possible during pregnancy.

Most women, even if pregnant, are forced by financial circumstances to continue working, almost right up to the time they give birth. But this is only advisable when the woman’s job does not require any strenuous activity or lifting which could place stress on the fetus. That could create a worse-case scenario where the unborn child could be spontaneously aborted, and even die if it is not viable at the time of the miscarriage.
Some employers, however, may be willing to temporarily modify a pregnant employee’s duties so that she and her spouse can continue to have income, which would be very important to maintain in view of that fact that there will soon be another mouth to feed and another body to clothe, not to mention those important office visits to the pediatrician.
It is important, however, for an expectant mother to continue with her pre-pregnancy exercise regime, for the benefit of her own physical and mental health, as long as it does not include activities that have a high risk of potential falls, such as horseback riding, bicycling, racket sports, and skiing. A mentally and physically healthy mother is more likely to deliver a healthier child.
Diet also ties in directly with the health of the fetus, since it feeds off what the host mother has taken into her body as nutrition. Foods that contain vitamin B, and Vitamin C, are especially recommended during pregnancy, and vitamin supplements are also a good idea.
It is important for the expectant mother to drink as much milk as possible. Besides the fact that it is good for her own skeletal health, it is important for the fetus’s bone development up to the time of birth.
During pregnancy, a woman should never drink alcoholic beverages. Babies born of women who imbibed alcohol have often presented with serious birth defects, as evidenced by Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.
