Our heart is one of the most important organs in our body and most of us only have a vague knowledge about it and do not know more about it than the fact that our heart pumps blood. This fist-sized powerhouse pumps oxygenated and nutrient-rich blood, throughout our bodies. Heart disease, unfortunately, is one of the most prevalent diseases in our country.

When there is tissue death due to non-availability of oxygen locally, there is infarction. Heart attack occurs due to cells of your heart muscle dying and this partial death of your heart tissues is called myocardial infarction.
This can cause permanent damage to your brain and can also lead to death. This occurs when an artery near our brain has a blockage.
Systolic blood pressure
Our blood pressure has two levels — systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure and in a blood pressure reading the higher one is systolic and the lower one is the diastolic. When the readings are respectively less than 120-130 and less than 80-90, the blood pressure is considered to be normal.

Body Mass Index (BMI)
When your BMI is 20-25, it is considered good, and when it is over 27, it is considered is overweight. If someone’s BMI is over 30, that person is obese. With a BMI over 30, the person’s risk of heart disease jumps up as there is a high blood pressure and diabetes risk too.
These are drugs that help in treating conditions of high blood pressure, angina, heart failure, anxiety etc. These medications reduce a person’s blood pressure and heart rate.
C-reactive protein (CRP)
CRP is a ring-shaped, pentameric protein that is found in our blood plasma. The levels of this protein rise in response to inflammation. Studies have shown that patients that have the highest levels of CRP are twice as likely to have a heart attack.
When you drink alcohol in moderation it is said to benefit your heart. However, there are also some downsides to drinking alcohol excessively. It could lead to heart disease, cancer, liver malfunction, alcoholism and also obesity.
Coronary artery disease
An increased level of LDL low-density lipoprotein (the bad cholesterol) is associated with an increased risk of coronary artery disease. An elevated level of High-Density Lipoprotein (HDL, the good cholesterol) is associated with a decreased risk of coronary artery disease
HDL and LDL — Good and Bad Cholesterol
There are two types of cholesterol affect your heart. High levels of LDL and low levels of HDL can lead to plaque buildup in the arteries. High levels of HDL cholesterol can prevent this buildup.
High Blood pressure and High cholesterol
High blood pressure and high cholesterol are the diseases that adults with extra weight are likely to have and that can lead to heart disease. Adults, who are overweight, are more likely to have high blood pressure and elevated cholesterol levels. Both of these disorders are precursors to heart disease.
