Helping Your Daughter for Her First Period : Womanhood is something, every girl waits to achieve. To many of them it’s a surprise, confusing and scary and to some whose mother’s are actively teaching their daughters about this is more comfortable and thing of celebration.

Enjoying being teen is best time of life of being care free. As any girl achieves puberty, it can be hard, but mothers can help their daughters from early to their first period to transforming in complete woman and enjoying fertility.

Here are few aspects mother can help their daughters to make them feel easy:

  1. Educate your daughter about puberty:

    Explain your daughter about the body changes they are going to have. Teach them every aspect of physiological swings, mood changes and most important physical changes they are going to see in body due to hormonal changes. Let her know about the symptoms like cramps, irritability and bloating, which are normal while experiencing changes.

  2. Share your own stories:

    Let them know that this is perfectly natural part of being a girl. Let her know how this all happened to you also. How you coped up with this. Share your stories, and stories of your friends, or other ladies known commonly to you and your daughter.

  3. Celebrate Womanhood:

    Don’t make your daughter feel wired or confused on having her first period. Make her feel excited and celebrate her first period with her one to one like a close friend. Let her know that she has achieved the first step of being a woman for what she is made by God a special person. Let her have Goosebumps of feeling completeness of being a girl. Let her enjoy.

  4. Store all the supplies before hand:

    This is time when your daughter may need extra supplies for her care. Whether it may be sanitary pads, tampons or comfortable panties.     For some girls it can be painful to use tampons, so don’t force her to use. Let her use pads. Make her know about different types of pads, how she can use them, and afterwards throwing in trash. She may not feel embarrassed in the whole process.

  6. Make her feel comfortable:

    While for the first period, flow can be more for some girls. Let her feel comfortable by letting her know that this is normal. Let her know how to use and when to change tampons or pads to adjust according to her flow. Don’t let her to be over cautious in performing daily activities, let her enjoy her life as she was doing earlier. Make her maintain proper hygiene so that she may not feel uncomfortable.

  7. Let her adapt these changes:

    At this stage it can be irregular and may be next period come after six months. Let her know that this is normal and once she achieve complete puberty she will easily able to predict her next date of period. Teach her how to calculate cycle and to be prepared for next.

 

This time of change can be tough and irritable for your daughter, but with love and helping hand towards her can make it really comfortable and easy for her to welcome her puberty without feeling wired.
