Enhance Your Social Network

With the civilization advancing, we all are getting busy and busier in our own tasks and consequently, we do not find enough time to contact personally or communicate our relatives, friends, well-wishers and others very frequently. This process has become a part of our routine life and converted into our attitude when we see our priorities.

Our elders advise us that if we continue to keep our contacts by personal visits or through any mode of communication with our relatives, friends and well-wishers, we would be able to reduce the chances of developing any misunderstanding with or amongst them regarding us. For arranging frequent meetings with our loved ones, our forefathers had started to hold fairs, get-togethers, religious congregations etc. so that the people were able to meet, talk, and enjoy together more frequently. The frequent contacts enable you to weed out the misunderstandings. Our regular contact with them strengthens our relationship also. Since we are social animals and our emotional health matters a lot, our active social contacts play a vital role even to keep our physical health sound and better.

It is true that due to increasing complexities of our life we are pressurized to work a lot for leading a better life and that over-work has reduced the availability of spare time greatly. But with the advancements made by science in communication methods, the world has become a village where the people can contact each other within seconds of time. As many people you contact, your social network would go on the enhancement of its size.

Actually, a social network is a social structure made of individuals connected by one or more specific types of interdependency, such as friendship, kinship, common interest, financial exchange, dislike, sexual relationships, or relationships of beliefs, knowledge or prestige. As bigger your social network be, so greater you may be having your social value. Your network can also be used to measure social capital — the value that you get from the social network. You can share your joys and sorrows, you can exchange the views and express your stand at any issue in a general way or to some specific group – it depends upon you how to do your social networking.

Social networking is the grouping of individuals into specific groups, like small rural communities or a neighborhood subdivision, if you will. Although social networking is possible in person, especially in the workplace, universities, and high schools, it is most popular online. This is because unlike most high schools, colleges, or workplaces, the internet is filled with millions of individuals who are looking to meet other people, to gather and share first-hand information and experiences about hand-gliding, golfing, gardening, aesthetics and cosmetic surgery, developing friendships or professional alliances, finding employment, business-to-business marketing and even groups sharing information about the current topics. The topics and interests are as varied and rich as the story of our world.

Social networks have also been used to examine how individuals/organizations interact with each other, characterizing the many informal connections that link executives together, as well as associations and connections between individual employees at different organizations. For example, power within organizations often comes more from the degree to which an individual within a network is at the center of many relationships than actual job title. Social networks also play a key role in hiring, in business success, and in job performance. Networks provide ways for companies to gather information, deter competition, and collude in setting prices or policies.

When it comes to online social networking, websites are commonly used. These websites are known as social sites. Social networking websites function like an online community of internet users. Depending on the website in question, many of these online community members share common interests in hobbies, religion, or politics. Once you are granted access to a social networking website you can begin to socialize. This socialization may include reading the profile pages of other members and possibly even contacting them.

The friends that you can make are just one of the many benefits to social networking online. Another one of those benefits includes diversity because the internet gives individuals from all around the world access to social networking sites. This means that although you are in the United States, you could develop an online friendship with someone in Denmark or India. Not only will you make new friends, but you just might learn a thing or two about new cultures or new languages and learning is always a good thing.

As mentioned, social networking often involves grouping specific individuals or organizations together. While there are a number of social networking websites that focus on particular interests, there are others that do not. The websites without a main focus are often referred to as “traditional” social networking websites and usually have open memberships. This means that anyone can become a member, no matter what their hobbies, beliefs, or views are. However, once you are inside this online community, you can begin to create your own network of friends and eliminate members that do not share common interests or goals. Now-a-days, as it is being observed, the recruiters all over the world mostly go through the internet to verify the contents of the application of the candidates before hiring them, to ascertain their suitability.

There are dangers associated with social networking including data theft and viruses, which are on the rise. The most prevalent danger though often involves online predators or individuals who claim to be someone that they are not. Although danger does exist with networking online, it also exists with networking out in the real world, too. Just like you’re advised when meeting strangers at clubs and bars, school, or work — you are also advised to proceed with caution online. By being aware of your cyber-surroundings and who you are talking to, you should be able to safely enjoy social networking online. It will take many phone conversations to get to know someone, but you really won’t be able to make a clear judgment until you can meet each other in person. Just use common sense and listen to your inner voice; it will tell you when something doesn’t feel right about the online conversations taking place.

Though we find merits and demerits in every system, we have to look out the merits first and should try to remove the demerits. Our social contacts can help us to carry on this procedure as it may be possible that all the time you may not be so intelligent to measure up every merit and demerit. Take help from your friends before it gets too late.
