Sex is a pleasurable activity and like any other physical activity, you burn calories doing it. So yes, sex does help in burning some amount of calories which can contribute in you losing weight. According to a research done by researchers at the University of Quebec in Canada, women burn about 3.1 calories per minute while men burn 4.2 calories every minute when they have sex. So in a session lasting 30 minutes, men can burn about 100 calories. This is similar to a moderate intensity workout such as playing tennis or cycling. But it is definitely more pleasurable than running on the treadmill or elliptical. This study was published in the journal PLOS ONE.
Since it does burn some amount of calories, you can definitely make it a part of your weight loss plans. In addition to this, sex also has a host of other benefits such as putting you in a good mood, increasing blood flow, helping you sleep better, etc.
