Are you making the best protein choices

Are you making the best protein choices : Protein is a fundamental macronutrient that keeps the body feeling fueled and full. However it can be incredibly easy to get stuck and not be able to abide by a healthy mealtime to stay in shape. The good news is there are lots of sources of good protein out there. Some might surprise you; others you may already consume on a daily basis. But then again, when eating food rich in protein, it is important to cook the products properly as well. Otherwise you’ll be left with nothing but fat and extra calories.

Making sensible protein choices is more difficult than meets the eye. It is important to focus on protein that helps build muscle mass, as well as learn that too much protein is not good for the health. How much protein should one include in their regimen? That is the question, and the answer is somewhat debatable.

Protein intake for a healthy body

Make people eat a lot of protein on a daily basis. Some have no idea that the foods they eat are packed whereas others know but don’t care. Too much protein can do more harm than good to the body, and the right amount depends on several factors such as activity level, height and age. Specialists argue that the daily recommended intake of protein is 8g/kg of body weight. An average woman weighting 130 pounds should consume 47g of protein per day.

In terms of protein sources, one should know that there are options apart from meat. Fish, quinoa, hummus and numerous other foods out there are packed with healthy protein that the body needs to look and feel great. Here are some more healthy options to get you out of the rut and back on the right track.

Seafood

Salmon, tuna, white fish and shrimp are all excellent protein sources. Tuna in particular, is delicious, affordable and easy to cook. Canned tuna is a type of food both men and women should have in their homes. Put tuna on veggie salads, eat on crackers as a daily snack or add it to your daily sandwich. 4 oz of canned tune is about 28g of protein; in calories, that amount has 128 calories, more or less. Salmon is also a great source of protein. It is packed with omega-3 fatty acids, a compound vital for the health of the heart. As far as shrimp are concerned, these are low in calories and rich in protein. Cook them on a grill or added to your on pasta or salad to get the right intake and feel energized for the whole day.

Dairy products

Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, and milk are excellent source of protein as well. Greek yogurt in particular is light and it is packs lots of calcium too; it can be added to salads or mixed with fresh fruit. One cup of Greek yogurt (non-fat) has 24g of protein (128 calories). Cottage cheese must also be added to your daily diet. It can be enjoyed with baked potatoes or topped with fruit as well, and one cup of cottage cheese (low fat) barely has 160 calories.

Protein sources & women

The body of a 20-year old woman is completely different from the body of a 20-year old man. Unlike men, women don’t want to bulk up. They don’t do strength exercises because they don’t want their muscles to grow in size; their aim is to have a toned body with lean muscles. It is important for women to include proper proteins into their systems to keep the metabolism engaged. Food supplements are the best; they don’t contain any chemicals and they’re excellent at burning fat while keeping the body fueled. Eggs, beans, legumes, tofu and nuts are foods that shouldn’t be missed out either. Cooked properly in olive oil, grilled or consumed in raw form, these are vital for women’s health.

Looking and feeling great is a matter of choice. Women who want their bodies to be slim and toned must ditch bad carbohydrates and turn their attention to healthy protein sources. This way they’ll manage to stay energized for an entire day without gaining any fat.
